Prunus Domestica & Mume
The earliest records of the plum date back to around 500 B.C where Confucius mentions then in his writings and musical compositions. About 400 years later in 65 B.C Pompey the great brought them as an extravagance from Asia to his gardens in Rome. They flourished and later s Alexanders armies marched to expand his boarders so to did the plums empire grow around the Mediterranean. Europeans enjoyed this variety so much that when they came to the new world, although there were wild plums they brought their own to grow and plant, which they did quite successfully. From Asia to the Americas plums exist to this day and are a treasure prized for their beautiful blossoms and their delectable fruit.
